I am very upset with Citi Bank. Sent me an email message stating how much Citi Bank wanted to help me pay my bill.

When I responded to the message, it was sent back because the message was sent to an UNATTENDED box.

Not honoring the available credit limit even after payments

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I was given $1500 credit limit on this particular card in which I pay $95 annual fee. My credit score is 816..

Every week I use the card to pay on restaurants, several membership fees and other reoccurring expenditure. Even though I never allowed my balance to go over $1000 by paying it ahead of the due date and also paying it completely on due date. The problem is the are not recognizing my payments until 12 to 14 days after. The payment confirmations are sent within minutes after paying it, and my bank account shows that they have taken the $$$ out of my bank.

For 10 to 14 days I don't have the availability to use the card, and at the same time my money is out of bank account. They are using the $$$ gaining interest for a 10 to 14-days.

I'm sure I'm not the only customer using this credit card. I have called them, also sent them e-mails and not doing anything.

No other credit card does that; once it is paid you credit availability is done within hours.

CITI BANK - Worst Banking Experience EVER nothing comes close

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Original review updated Aug 04, 2025

I can honestly tell you CITI is the worst banking experience I ever had in my life. This is a cautionary tale about big banks that don't serve the needs of their customers anymore and if someone's from corporate is reading this...

do something about it.

It started with having to wait two and a half weeks to just get a call return from David T. Poe -AVP Business Relationship Manager. He was the sole person that set up business accounts. The branches have skeletal staff and its a typical 30 minute bank to be able to sit down with a banker.

Secondly the account was not set up properly as per the plan.. Thirdly the card was lost in the mail I had to wait two weeks for one they sent a replacement that took two days. it took me multiple days to reach a manager because go figure the business manager was fired and they didn't have a replacement yet. In conjunction with that the delegate manager (Cherlyn) goes on a two week vacation so I'm passed on to another delegate manager to deal with this (Lauren).

I wasn't able to set up my online account until I received my card so it disrupted my business there. Meantime I had to do a domestic wire and they charged me $55 in branch for ONE.

CITI has a long burdensome process for being able to send funds via token system which I was willing to accept. On my very first attempted online ACH transfer domestic transfer my account was frozen.(I had a VPN on my computer which must have triggered it). I had to wait 4 business days to find out that my account was in the process of being closed when I walked into a branch to find out what was going on.

What reason I really don't know I have an almost perfect FICO score and no other banking issues. I tried to figure out what was going on with my account . Their district manager Vahaug wasn't easy to get a hold off. Try tried reaching me once, followup voicemails to him went unanswered until the full damage was already done.

Vendors and contracts need to be paid, I left a couple stern voice messages with Vahaug. A couple days after my account was frozen I sat on hold for about an hour and a half I was directed by the customer support toll free line to reach out to the fraud department. That turned out to be an internal staff phone number 844-856-**** for some reason. Now the five figures of funds are being held hostage by the bank and I'm being told my the somewhat ambivalent personal banker Natalie Jack (Silverado Ranch branch) that I may have to wait 30 to 60 days to get my funds back and it's a process.

Well process this CITI you're going to get ripped everywhere I can tell the story to and there's no defamation in truth .

The slowest moving part of a SaaS startup should never be its banking relationship. CITI you are the worst and someday when I have a business relationship with Costco I will share this experience as to how bad of a banking partner you truly are.

You lost a future $100 million + company with us. I've dealt with some bad banks but your number one without any close second from the top (waiting weeks to get a call to open an account to waiting weeks waiting for card and inability to get online access in meantime) to its bank tellers at the Anthem branch that say goodbye with "UH HUH".

No live agent even for government card

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Government payments are complex, and our usual questions cannot be answered by a robot. You'd think if a company valued their contract with the government, they would have a special contact for government use.

If a government cardholder can't get a hold of a person, how the heck is any civilian supposed to? Their bot freaking hung up on me!

It's impossible to get a real person. The government should cancel the Citibank contact and work with a company that actually values their customers.

This company is comfortable causing DEATH

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I am disabled, with severe spinal compression issues that require frequent rest breaks for context. That being said, I have been stranded away from home or anyone I know and have been fighting non-stop since 8 a.m.

with countless reps today after they locked and replaced my debit card without prior notice, leaving me with less than a dollar to get home or even eat all day long. So I spent the entire day trying to work out a method to get access, such as Zelle or wire transfer, only to keep getting fraud alerts placed on me and them cancelling those transactions also. So now, 20 minutes before the end of business, and I have been told for hours a wire transfer would process today, I'm informed it's requiring an audit now and that is 24-48 hours. I will quite literally die overnight with my medical issues if I stay in the situation I've been in all day long.

Not to mention hypoglycemia, and despite this being extremely extenuating circumstances, there is apparently nobody that can be contacted and they are 'very sorry' for the inconvenience. But I'll get a call tomorrow 'hopefully' to resolve it. Like somehow death isn't permanent and I have an extra life in reserve to start over tomorrow?

So I get an apology and hung up on, which has been happening all day long simply because my money is being held away from me for no reason. They won't allow me to close the account either, no local branches here, literally giving me zero alternative options but to die quieter so they don't have to hear it.

EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WILL NOT RELEASE MY DEPOSITED FUNDS

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

If I could leave this company with zero star rating, I would. I have, many medical conditions And bills to pay.

I opened a new account and deposited my paycheck using the mobile app. I knew it would take a day or so to be available, but instead, 2 days later, they decided to hold it for a week and a half. Making it impossible for me to seek medical treatment (gey my prescriptions), have money for food and gas, and also pay some very necessary bills. I had already set up direct deposit for my next check, and they said I would have access to it immediately after deposit, which was a LIE, and they once again denied me access to the money for four additional days because they had not sent me a debit card yet, which means for 2 weeks they held over $2,500.00 and would provide no resolution.

I couldn't even transfer the money to a friend to help me out, because I did not have the debit card. They told me to go to a local branch. I live in Nashville. The nearest local branch in Chicago.

I spent every day for week a total of six to seven hours on the phone (while very sick with pneumonia due to complications of the flu due to my rheumatoid arthritis and early onset Parkinson's Disease) and STILL GOT NOWHERE. Once I finally got my debit card, they said everything was resolved, ad it wouldn't have any further issues. So I foolishly deposited my next paycheck yesterday (for some stupid reason I actually believed them), which I needed access to in the next day or so. And they're now are saying they're holding it until the 25th and that this is NO WAY to override the computer or speed up receiving MY HARD EARNED MONEY!!

Because it's a computer program, there no one in the entire organization, that can help me, (of course that is according to them). So once again, I'll be going without some medical treatments, and I will have a number of bills that will not be paid because they're holding my money hostage (which those executives making the big bucks will never understand or even respond to). I have been talked down to, patronized offered hollow platitudes, dismissed, been hung up on, and I have had a thoroughly unpleasant banking experience with this company or rthe last month. I am shocked they are allowed to do this.

And I have never, in my forty years of banking, ever run into this problem, PERIOD. I HAVE BEEN IN TEARS, BEGGING FOR HELP AND A SOLUTION, BUT HAVE GOTTEN ZERO HELP. This company is horrible, uncaring, and wholly UNTRUSTWORTHY. DO NOT trust them with your money.

They will continue to screw you and screw you.

And for somebody who desperately relies on his funds for medical care and bills, not to be able to have access to my hard-earned money has been awful and made for a very rough month. PLEASE, FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, NEVER USE THIS BANK.

Locked my debit card down for no reason!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

After trying to buy a few items, that I needed with all the fear of tariffs, Citibank decided to review my debit card account locking me out of using it. I called but they would not give me any information about why it is being reviewed or when this review will come to some kind of conclusion! This is just unacceptable and should be illegal TO SAY THE LEAST, withholding my funds without explanation is criminal!

Terrible company that could be in financial distress, AVOID! Puts profits over people, denies high credit score customers a credit card because they are more likely to pay on time and GREEDY CITI does not make money off of them by charging penalties and fees.

I filed complaints about this and having this practice investigated. Business partners and their customers might be cherry-picked for Citi's own agenda with no regard for their duped partner or customers. Unintelligent company that lacks ethics and customer focus, all imo. I just banned them and any ads other communication will be immediately dismissed and brought to the attention of those above the company.

Do not believe or trust Citibank.

Check out their low financial ratings online and reviews from all the pissed customers. Go elsewhere to a reputable company for your financial needs.

They are fine. For 2024, 84 billion in revenue led to 12 billion in income.

$5.94 earnings per share.

If you don’t carry a balance, you won’t miss having the card. If your score is so high you should be able to go elsewhere.
