Poor customer service

Had a very disappointing and frustrating experience with the customer service representatives as they kept transferring the call around and not addressing a simple problem of login issues. There are no Citibank branches around to even go and do the job directly. I dont even think Citibank cares much about this as there are multiple similar reviews. Plan to consider changing my bank as soon as is feasible

My boyfriend sent a $400 deposit to acquire a secured credit card from Citibank over 2 years ago, the original agreement stated the deposit would be refunded after 18m . He never went over the limit and made all his payments on time.

For the first year he paid off the entire balance every single month, even When it came time to refund the money they told him they would do another review in 12 more months and revisit refunding the deposit then we made a call to the company today to see if they could work with us on this issue and refund the money or at least lower the APR since he has been essentially paying outrageous interest (over 28%) on HIS OWN money for over 2 years now. In an attempt to improve his credit rating, to no avail. They refused to offer him any sort of explanation or budge at all on him having to wait another year to be reviewed.

This is ridiculous and these secured cards only keep people down and force them further into debt rather than help them improve their credit. Their customer service was extremely disappointing and the fact that this is even legal is appalling to me.

That $400 is a security deposit. Just like you pay if you rent an apartment.

You are not paying interest back on YOUR money. You are making payments in agreement with terms you agreed to. That includes interest if you carry a balance. Interest at a rate YOU agreed to.

And while 28% is outrageous, on $300 it is about $6.90 a month. You should have paid it off entirely for the 18 months.

Locked more than 80K of our money

Opened a new account due to their promotion and funded it with more than 80K. They closed it due to fraud alert and holding the $ for 60-90 days. Why not refunding immediately? No explanation on what the fraud is and how to address it. They simply apologize and ask for a wait of 2-3 months, even though they have already decided to close the account. Why the wait? Why no explanation?

Nothing has changed since I complained to Citibank. I spoke to 4 people there, 2 of whom were “managers”.

None of them spoke clear English.I was told that 22.24% interest was the best rate around and lowest they could go.

However I have a 14.99% rate from KeyBank and a 17.24% from Citizens bank, both well under Citibank's “best” rate! I’m in the process of transferring my money to these other banks.

Just got off the phone with a supervisor (from outside the country of course!) from Citibank. He suggested I pay off and CLOSE my Citibank credit card or research other cards to transfer my balance to, so I can then CLOSE my account of 35+ years. Wow. Incredible customer service! Never had a company refuse my business. How low can they go??!

My account has been blocked for over a month citi bank says they sent a letter welli waited ten buisness days and nothing then they say get another number and they can verify that way so i purchas a whole new phone and line just for them to turn around and say they cant verify that way and so they send a registerd letter ai wait10 more buisness days and nothing so i call and make sure they are sending it to the correct address just for themto tell me they cannot tell me the address but they will send another letter well if i have to wait ten days for a letter that they are sending to the wrong address i wont have a *** address for them to send it to .someone needs to unblock this account NOW i am at the end of my rope .if nothing is done about this by tomarrow im getting ahold of my local news station and a lawyer this is *** get your *** together.

Why are there no communications prior to freezing the account?

No notification/letters sent to account holders of need to update and froze the accounts Terrible customer service to remedy Poor communication with Citibank employees Based offshore, Impossible Poor knowledge/understanding of providing solution Took nearly two hours to get accounts unfrozen! Took many transfers to different departments Horrible customer service Accounts had been in existence for twenty plus years and then this experience Again, No letters mailed to secure updated information to have avoided this!

Happened after they received the authorized user paperwork for my husband. Locked down all the account and can't see what happened.

Days on the phone and months to get resolved.

How is this not making news? They have a terrible pattern of account issues and it's the same across the review platforms.
