Citibank complaint by Itai
Citibank refused a transaction at a store after I had been shopping for one hour with 2 kids in tow, accumulating over $400 of heavy items. I had to beg the store to use their phone and they finally let me call Citibank from the customer service desk.

The first respondent from Citibank informs me that MY credit card was reported stolen, to which I indicate that I have never reported such incident and I am in possession of the ONLY such card (with my name and picture on it). I get passed on to a security specialist who says that it was compromised (not stolen) by a store who lost receipts with my credit card number on it.

Well, its good that they are looking after security of numbers but I am at a store right NOW and I need to buy these materials. I ask them to let the transaction through and they said it can't be done because the account is closed. Of course, nobody ever told me that the account was closed. I had gotten a call the day before saying that they will reissue a new credit card in 7 to 10 days but only one day has passed so I couldn't of gotten a new one.

I spent at least 20 minutes on the phone (the store's phone, which they weren't happy about me using) with 3 people to try to get the to authorize the transaction, either on the current account or on the reissued-account. They refused every possibility, always stating that they are not authorized or they can't do it. Give an authorization code: No. Reopen the account: No. Use the new account: No. Give me the new account number: No. Nothing.

They did offer any way for me to pay for my items at the store. I unfortunately had no other credit cards (for the last time, I told myself) and I informed them that they lost a customer because there were not going to allow me to complete my transaction.

Boohoo , get over it. Would you have rather someone use your credit card number to max out your card? And they told you they were issuing a new card the day before! Come on, lets get real here.

:cry stop n listen to yourself. you were informed that the account was closed. but as an idiot you still tryed to use the card. duh!!! and they're called security procedures. you'd be just as mad if not more if they'd let fraudulent charges be authorized. seriously stop and consider both sides of the story :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry
